Google page rank is a mystery

Google page rank is quite a mystery to me. It works differently on my sites. It took 7 months to build up Arloo blog to get a PR4. But this blog Feb13 got a PR-4 just after 2 months. What do you think? Maybe Feb13 got more related backlinks in a short time. I am not sure about that.

Now, I am working on a new blog. It's FunnyRemix-dot-com. It's the first blog that I run on a web hosting and a domain name. Basically, you can say that it's my big and serious project. Like every bloggers out there, I really want my blog get a moderate PR[about 3,4] within a short time, say, 3 months. I believe that I'm not expecting too much.

I believe there are some technique to pull it off. I have started building FunnyRemix just 4 days ago. Are you surprised? And I have put 100 posts into that. And I am building the links up. So, let's just wait and see. I'll try each and every SEO tricks I found. And I hope I can write about what I am going through.

I've been working on my new blog FunnyRemix.com for 3 days. It's quite tiring but I am enjoying it. I finally bought my own domain + webhosting account. And I get to use Word Press for that blog. Everything's new to me but I am doing just fine. Of course, I had to do lots of research for setting everything up. Well, here's the screen-shot of FunnyRemix.com.

It's mainly for entertainment purpose. You know, just to kill some time and have fun. You can find daily updates of hilarious jokes, funny videos, cool flash games, animations and all. I try my best to keep entertaining the visitors. So, why not check it out!

Commission Junction & Adwords makes money

Recently, a friend mine has started an affiliate marketing business on the internet. She got the idea from a Thai professional who makes money using Adwords and Commission Junction. And now I am pretty interested in doing that.

Here's how it works. You become an affiliate at CJ and when you get the advertisers link, you put that in your adwords ad URL. Yes, you can make money that way.

There is one thing that I like about this affiliate selling. You don't need a website with high traffic - since you are just selling using Adwords. Pretty cool! I think I am gonna try it a few days later. For now, I am learning about that in some forums.

Pieces of life

It's summer time in Thailand now. Needless to say, the weather is very hot. Here goes a joke my teacher told us; Thailand has only three seasons namely the hot, hotter and the hottest. Now is the hottest time. Actually, my home town, Yangon is also very hot in summer. Well, I stop talking about weathers now. I just want to say that it's really hot outside now.

Blogging and me
I stopped blogging a month ago. It was because I was busy and didn't have much time to work on my blogs. It just happened and I couldn't do anything about it. However, the traffic to my blogs were quite stable and they kept making around 150 bucks per month. It was really a relief for me. I don't expect much from blogging but you know when you get money for something you've done in your free time, you feel good and it's really sweet. I just hope I can blog more in the future.

What was going on?
A few months back, I talked about a TV series based on the story of King Bayinnaung. Actually, the news about that TV series is not much heard. Perhaps, they are shooting now. I just didn't get any detailed information. I'll inform you when I get the latest information.

Things just didn't go my way lately. I was pretty much stressed and busy and all. I feel so bad that I couldn't post a single entry for the past few weeks.

I am back afterall - feel quite fresh and well. The blogging thingy is important for me. So, I'll manage my time well for blogging. Otherwise, I wouldn't stand a chance to stay active in the blogosphere.

Blogging is hard

Making money from a blog is not an easy task to pull off. It takes time, intelligence and creativity. Last week, I had been working some new projects and I had to stop all of them because I was so tired of it. Blogging for money definitely is difficult!

Now that I have taken a break, I resume my blogging starting from today. I have got a few more ideas. But I have to continue my current projects first.

In the meantime, I found out that my Myanmar blogger friends were also not active. They might have been busy. I don't know. I hope they will become active soon. Alright, this is just a quickie post which is nothing useful. Thanks for reading :)

Don't dream to become a problogger

If you still think there are a lot of “professional” bloggers in the world, I wouldn’t go walking around outside on a stormy day.

There is also a pyramid showing how the Blogosphere is organized. I agree with Eric on some points. I agree that to become a problogger who earns 6 figure income from blogs is absolutely difficult. However, to be successful in blogging also needs natural talent, skills and luck. Therefore, not everyone has a chance of 0.0002%. Some bloggers might have advantage over others in terms of skills, talent or luck.

For me, it doesn’t matter whether I become a problogger or not. I just want to make some money on the internet. And I’d be really happy if I can make $1000/month income out of blogging. So, I'll still be dreaming; not to become a problogger but to make some $$$.

More Myanmar Bloggers needed!

Compared to other nations in South East Asia, Myanmar has very few bloggers. I am not sure why but there are more than a couple of reasons. And we do lag behind the others. In this post, I will not be writing about the reasons now. I'll just write a newbie blogger's thoughts on Myanmar blogs.

Regular updates are quite rare among Myanmar blogs. I love reading my fellow Myanmar bloggers posts. But it takes quite a while to read their new posts. I know that most of them are students and some of them are busy with their jobs. And it makes me feel like I am doing nothing but blogging. I admit that I spend most of my free time on my blogs either posting or tweaking around. Believe me, I don't even go out. No night clubs, no nothing. [I think I'm like a blog maniac now] But I do take some breaks playing soccer with my buddies in the evening.

Since a few months ago, I've been encouraging my buddies to blog, too. They started but didn't continue. You know what, most of them would rather play War Craft.

Now, I think we have a handful of Myanmar bloggers. Their blogs are great. They write well. But I think we need more, a lot more. As far as I know, Malaysia and Singapore has thousands of bloggers already. That's awesome. I hope I will be able to read tons of Myanmar blogs in the future; be it an online diary or tech blog or expert blog. I'll enjoy reading them all. However, teenage Xanga diaries are not my taste.

Chitika audits out now

Chitika audits for November and December are out now. I've just finished checking my earnings. Well, November's not bad and December's cool for a newbie. But January is not doing well. I might need to review my ad placements.

By the way, I think Chitika eMiniMall performs best on niche products sites. I'm not sure about that though. My blogs are not product related and they might convert less clicks than a product blog. But I saw Kahsoon put up Chitika eMiniMalls on his blog which is mostly about funny stuffs. And I guess his blog is doing quite well with Chitika eMiniMalls.

Code is poetry

Code is poetry? I don't know who said that but I like the neatly written codes. As for a newbie like me, the codes behind the beautiful web designs are often pretty difficult to understand. I'm still trying but not that hard I suppose. I'm quite lazy.

Recently, I've been browsing through OSWD and found really good designs. And the codes are quite easy to understand. And the designs are wonderful. The best thing is that all of those are open source and free. Pretty cool, ain't it? I think I'm doing an informercial now. :-)

Mobile phone virus - is it out there yet?

Mobiles phone are getting so advanced nowadays. And they are becoming more like computers. Well, virus writers might also write some malicious programs for mobile phones, too.

I heard that the latest smart phones with Bluetooth are the most likely target for high-tech viruses. So, what happens when your mobile phone gets infected? Most like the computer virus, it can do everything you can do. It can call toll numbers or record your passwords.

There are some precautions prescribed by the experts though. Here they are.

Make Bluetooth invisible by going to the Bluetooth menu and setting it on "non-discoverable" or "hidden." You can still make it available when needed.
Delete all unsolicited messages without opening them.
Always say "no" if your phone asks to install a program that you are not familiar with.

For I myself do not have such an advanced mobile phone, I don't have to be worried now. But if you have one, those tips might be useful for you. [Ref: RD]

A lesson learned

When I started my blogging routine this morning, I found out that LiewCF and Dan are talking about "Feb13" on their blogs. This is a very good thing that can happen to a blogger.

However, because of my incomplete profile, Liew mistaken me as a Thai blogger. Luckily, Alex was able to know that I'm from Myanmar because he saw the little button at the top of Arloo saying - Made by a Myanmar. I also left a comment on Liew's blog explaining where I'm actually from. The confusion was all started by my incomplete profile. So, I'm so sorry, guys.

As the blogging masters say, a blogger's profile is an important thing. Without a profile, your readers don't know who is writing all those stuffs. Man, that is true. Now, I have also learned that the basic facts are a must.

Brilliant customer support

Last night, me and my buddy were discussing about blogs and we decided to buy a webhosting account at SiteGround. It was all smooth process as he filled up the sales form. After everything is filled up in the form and when he clicked the "Buy" button, an error came up. It's with his credit card. So, he tried with his Paypal account, the error still came up. We didn't know what went wrong. Later we found out that his credit card is not actually usable on the internet. And his Paypal account also had some card verification error.

We were very disappointed with that. But suddenly, the phone rang. Man, it was the sales person from SiteGround. He was calling from USA to Thailand. He carefully asked what our problem was and explained other payment methods. Well, that was the best customer support I've ever seen. These people are really good at selling.

Adsense check arrived

Today, I got the check sent from Adsense for November earnings. And it's my second check from Adsense. Though it's only a couple of hundred dollars, I am happy. I can also prove to my friends that there are some ways to make money on the internet without being a web expert. Well, those guys at Google are cool, too.

I finally realize that blogging for money is not a bad idea at all. I can write what I am interested in and make money at the same time. That's the unique enjoyment! However, there are a few important things that I have learnt. It is also an old philosophy but its literally sound and true. Before you get something, you have to give first. Without giving, you don't get anything. In Burmese, it might be translated to "ce-da-ner". Lots of free time and the passion to sit in front of the computer are also necessary. *grin*

By the way, I have very little intention to make money from "Feb13" because it is my personal blog and I don't want to make it look ugly by putting Adsense. [This may change over time. I can't guarantee *grin*] Anyway, most of the readers here will be my blogger friends and clicks on the Ads are least expected.

Siam Paragon - the pride of Bangkok

The Siam Paragon became Thailand's biggest development project with over 100
architects and has opened on December 9 2005. It is a huge place, really. I couldn't walk around and looked the whole place on my first visit. Maybe I am not a person who likes going around the shopping mall. :-)

Anyway, I got some pics from my downtown trip. All the photos below are taken around the entrance of Siam Paragon. You might like to visit there when you come to Bangkok. It is right next to Siam skytrain station.

King Bayinnaung and Thai TV

Thais are making a new TV series about King Bayinnaung's life. I am not sure whether they portray him negatively or not. The details are below. I am surprised that their budget is quite high. Baht 100 million roughly equals to 2.5 million US$.

With a huge investment of more than Bt100 million, the new 34-episode soap is based on the novel written by Ja Kob about the life and loves of King Bayinnaung, who ruled the Toungoo dynasty in Burma from 1551-81. He unified the country and conquered the Shan States and Siam to make Burma the most powerful kingdom in mainland Southeast Asia. The series will take about a year to produce and will screen early next year.

“We have everything ready to make this historic soap opera happen,” said MC Chatrichalerm Yukol, preisident of Prommitr and executive producer of the soap.

He said “It [Phoo Chana Sib Tis] will be the first soap opera in Thailand to be shot in a movie-like high-definition format,” he said.

Kamla Yukol, Prommitrvice-president said: “We are now seeking someone to play Chadej [King Bayinnaung]. The ‘Seeking Chadej’ campaign will be shown on ModerNine channel from tomorrow onwards.” [The Nation]

I'll be watching their campaign tonight. And I'll dig more info about this. I am really curious now because I want to know why the Thai are making this soap opera. I heard that they have a good impression on King Bayinnaung. Stay tuned.

Feb13 makes me relieved

After setting up "Feb13", I feel pretty relieved. I have always wanted a personal blog where I can express myself. I could have made "Feb13" way earlier but I was very indecisive.

I was dreaming of buying a web hosting and getting a WordPress powered blog. But I want to run 2 blogs (ie. 2 different domains) which cannot be done in my future webhosting (you feel like "huh?" Let me explain. I am buying a hosting account very soon. I am waiting to get my Visa card done). So, I made the choice. I'll host Feb13 on Blogger first. When I can buy another webhosting account I will move it there. For now, Feb13 will be here on Blogger.

No Adsense for "Feb13" yet

Currently, I don't have plan to integrate Adsense on "Feb13" so there won't be much annoyance. As you know, Adsense ads makes your blog a little bit out of shape and sometimes it's ugly. And Adsense doesn't convert well on blogs covering various topics. Another reason is that I have very little intention to monetize "Feb13". It is like a personal blog which will be very close to me. Therefore, even when I want to make money out of it, I will probably use some Affiliate programs.

Right now, you can see "Affiliate links" on the sidebar. Those links are actually Ads link selling products. If you buy those products, I get some commission fee. I signed up just yesterday and now I am testing it on my blogs. They don't look ugly, do they?

Anyway, "Feb13" is a new blog and I have to work on getting traffic first if I want to monetize it. So, it will take sometime before you start seeing some ads. Well, enough for this post now. Please stay tuned and I'll be posting more tomorrow.

I eventually found no place to write my thoughts and personal stuffs. Finally, I have to make this new blog "Feb13".

In my opinion, writing about someone's life is quite boring if it isn't made up of insightful thoughts or interesting experiences. I'm really worried that my posts will become so boring to read. Interview with Mayvelous

Last week I interviewed "Mayvelous" about her blog and her opinions on blogging. Actually I had been trying to interviewed her since the 1st week of November but didn't have a chance since I was quite busy playing poker(just kidding!). At last, I finally met her on Yahoo last week. The reason I chose her for interview is that she's the only one Myanmar blogger who owns a domain name and uses a professional blogging software, Wordpress. And she began her blog earlier than I did. 4.Where did that name come from?

Hmm it's kinda like my own name "May" mixed with a few nicks my friends give me. Some friends call me mayves but I hate that. So I mixed with May + marvelous, actually that's my bro's idea. That's how I got Mayvelous. People think that's my real name :P silly isn't it?

5.What powers your blog? (Blogger, Wordpress, etc.)

It's a Wordpress blog. Wordpress 1.5.2 actually with the Connection theme and some code mixed from Connection reloaded.

6.And the reason you chose wordpress is?

I was just testing a few blogging tools and I got 2 choices, either Wordpress or Textpattern. When I look around and check those out, I found Textpattern is kinda hard to install. I mean their site doesn't explain the instructions well enough and I hate searching for info. And Wordpress site gives very easy instructions and displayed in so obvious place and so easy search. Yah that's how I choose to try wordpress.

7.What is your blog about? And why did you choose such a topic?

My blog. It's just a personal blog. No specific topic actually, my topics are varies, about life in fiji, mm stuffs, my work, my projects, codes that I'm interested in etc.

Yah, I think they could get to know me quite a lot from my blog posts. Most of my posts show my ideas, opinions and way of thinking. So, Yah if u are my regular reader, you might even know how I talk, my slangs, my habits and many more of my silly ways :D

7.Do you work?

:D I hate that question but Yes I do work. I work at home. I work at work :D I work quite a lot. (She is a web developer)

8.Did anyone/blog inspired you to blog?

Oh, Yah, quite a few people inspired me to blog. I was introduced the term blogging by one of my work mate. You see, our work involve lots of searching around on net and find out how others doing what and the latest technology. So most of the site we look at are blogs, technical blogs, design blogs, personal blogs lots. So my friend told me to make use of RSS feeds and introduced me to bloglines feed reading. So after about 2, 3 weeks of regular read on my favorite sites, I got really interested in blogging and gave a first try on Blogger. Then later I decided to have my own domain with Wordpress account. So you could say my inspirationals are those designers and developers who are very good and smart with their blogging. I want to be one like them, too. May be in the future at least :P I prefer to do technical blogging than personal. My technical skills are just too newbie so yah still trying :D

9.Do your friends blog too?

A few of my work mates blog but not regularly. My friends are lazy bones :D and we do get busy a lot. So it's hard for us to blog regularly.

10.Your Favourite Music is...

Pop, Hiphop, Slow sweet melodies with great lyrics. I listen plenty and like a lot, too but I don't like those scary black metals or too noisy rocks.

11. Brad Pitt or Orlando Bloom?

:)) Brad Pitt definitely LOL

12.Apple or Windows?

Windows. I love the Apple interface but we don't use it, so I've only tested once. Windows is my daily use.

14.Well, I think there are not many Myanmar bloggers. Do you think its true?

That's rite. I think it's true. But they'll come slowly. We, Burmese are always slow starters. One reason, not enough info flow. Another, they don't like expressing. I mean they are shy. They only like to be readers/viewers. They don't want to be the talker, even they want to discuss in one topic, they think of how other might say on their views. Hmm yah I think most of Burmese are just shy people who don't express their views openly. But I'm sure lots of youngsters are opening up these days and a lot more Myanmar blogs to see in the future.

15. So,your advice to newbie bloggers out there…

Hey, welcome to the blogging world, where ever you are, who ever you are and be free in opening up your thoughts. A great world out there with lots of opportunities, blogging will give you many of your hidden talents. So start blogging and get connected with like minded people around the world.

Blogging - the way I see it

I would like to discuss what I know about blogs. There are basically 2 types of blog, personal and commercial.

1. Personal blog

This type of blog centers around a particular blogger's thoughts, daily life or whatever interests that blogger. A good example can be Ah, Yes, Medical School.

2. Commercial blog

This kind of blogs mainly focused on only one topic. But it can be like boingboing.net which compiles various news links. For commercial blogs, the bloggers do the promotion to draw great traffic and earn money from advertisements. An example blog can be Pokerchiptricks Blog

Should we add advertisements on our blogs?

Putting advertisements on your blog is not a bad thing. As long as you can keep it neat and tidy, it is fine. And you also get some $$, if you have a decent traffic- at least 2000 visitors per day. I can't even make 1000 so far. I also have some game related blogs up and they are making more traffic than ARLOO. And they will draw more traffic in the future.

Does blogging really makes money?

Yes, definitely yes. Why blogging can make you earn some hard cash? Because there are millions of internet users out there, and if you can get 5000 visitors daily(this isn't impossible), you are already doing good. You can potentially earn around 1000$ per month. (Only if you have the knowledge of promotion, Ad placement strategies, SEO , etc.) You'll earn more as you get more traffic.

Blogging for dollars? Is it easy?

No, definitely not. It takes a lot of time and patience. I have been learning blogging related stuffs for 4 months and I am still learning everyday to get all the possible knowledge.

So, why do I blog?

1.I like to share the news I read everyday. It will be a waste of time if I don't share with others.

2. Since the time I was introduced to blogs, I was addicted. I read blogs and write on my blogs everyday. So, blogging is one of my favourite things to do.

3.I want to make money by blogging. Surprised? I am still a student which means I have no income. If I can earn some money from blogging, I can support myself before I get a job. And that makes less headache for my mom and dad.

Finally, I would like to show you examples of cool bloggers. This two famous Malaysian bloggers even quit their full time jobs because their earning from blogs exceeded their full time job salary.

My name is Wai Pyo, 22 year-old guy from Myanmar - the golden land. I'm now studying in Assumption University, Thailand for a Bachelor Degree in Management with a major in Business Information Systems. I am also a part-time blogger who have a great interest in blogging.
